Today in this two part special where gonna discuss about Good hair in animation & how it can define the character and fashion.

i wanted to talk about the topic of hair in animated shows, how it can define the details and proper cultural portrayal of how black people or POC have been represented as a whole (be it of mixed ecthnicity)

Lets get down to it, I feel we need to make a discussion on the Good & bad on proper cultural rep on shows especially when it relates & emotes to viewers & fans, we do have the discussions oof having nothing but our sexuality been made a character define characteer instead of good character, wriitng, physcial features and up holding a beauty standard.

The topic of HAIR Appreciation in animation, Questionable taste in how hair is not styled well for ethnicity.

Luz's hair has so much symbolism of who she is, going to all works of animation, I do feel when she wasn't fully understood at home she acted out very ill-conditioned cause her father pass and moved into a new area, never relating to anyone, So it leads her to not changing her looks be it fashion, which i feel the shows writing shouldve explored more into why she keeps in short and theres a topic ill put in is masculization of black women think about it.

Dear I say it, after rewatching the show, IT feels like A LETDOWN & missed chances at times, with the staff & writers not know how to make great hairstyles to show proper culutral race. (and i have seen alot of fanart who did a great job on giving her better styles that enhnace her physcial features.

i feel this a recurring trope been used since the miles morales hair controversy cause black people or poc presented hair comes in many forms that can gives so much praise. Hers a article on the miles morales hair debut which is a logical standpoint on hair reprenentation, shows we need to have more diverse hairstyles in media or poc characters

While anne boonchy & moon girl lunella had great writing, having there cultural cleebbrated in great execution of proper black hair great with good results, In moon girl we also get in episode where we discuss why we see black people be in love with there selves for there beautiful features including hair along anne boochuy diaspora making a impact.

look at the hairstlyes from the winx club, the long hair on characters as layla (aisha) & flora is PHENOMENAL AND COULD’VE PLAYED A ROLE IN BLACK PEOPLES HAIR BEING BEAUTIFUL FOR VIEWERS

One Great example for hair representation, and also cultural goodness put into it was the Winx club (which had actual fashion designers work on the character concepts and outfits)

anyway, PREVIOUSLY ON: THE FLAMES AND DARKNESS LIVEBLOG we had the Court on Nightmares Under The Mountain Reenactment Scene as I like to call it and can we talk about how Feyre has known Rhys for like a year and only liked him for like half a year and yet she was perfectly fine sitting in his lap nacked and letting herself be sexualized by him. And if he thought they wouldnt have given it to him, he couldve easily come up with a different distraction he just went with the one that sexualizes Feyre because hes weirdo. Like, if hes so cruel on every other day then he shouldve acted really nicely, greeted Keir by giving him the biggest hug and being like "uncleeeee!! :D long time no see :)" and Feyre should have been dressed up as like, the embodiment of spring in pastel green soft shades of pink and but Rhysand still treats with the utmost kindness and respect, now that would throw the Hewn City for a loop

Okay so the reason Rhys broke keirs arm is because the word 'whore' triggered him which is understandable but like, Feyre thought of herself as the Highlords Whore in a very deliberate parallel to Rhysand being known as Amarantha's Whore and Im pretty sure she even straightup thought something about being in the position he had for so many years but she was like, horny about it and the narrative just isnt acknowledging it. Like, theyre not talking about it even though their mindlink was presumably open the whole time bc I remember them flirting through the link, and Feyre isnt even like "oh man, I feel bad for thinking that when its so upsetting to him" its so weird

Rhysand basically said "I will never try to protect you by locking you away, instead I will protect you by killing anyone who upsets you, even when they dont actually upset you and they just upset me" like he and Tamlin are not fundamentally any different from each other, its just that Rhysand is a coldblooded murderer. but its fine cuz he wears black leather i guess

I just realized. Rhysand had a boner when Feyre was sitting in his lap. did that go away when he broke Keirs arm or did he walk out of that meeting with his dick fully hard

Rhysand just said something about how Tamlin just locked Feyre up and let her waste away and almost die and Feyre was gonna say "He was trying his best" but Rhys interrupted her like "Dont compare me to him, stop comparing us" when she didnt say anything about that ??? my guy is projecting so hard rn he thinks theyre having a conversation that theyre not even having

And like i would argue that Feyre doesnt even compare Rhysand and Tamlin that much, the narrative definitely does it a LOT, but Ive been reading Feyres thoughts throughout this whole ordeal and I feel like she barely even thought about Tamlin since she sent him that letter

This scene is supposed this big turning point for their relationship and its clearly meant to be really emotional but the only emotion i can feel rn is annoyance with Rhysand because its like, he did have genuinely traumatic things that happened to him but not only is he barely affected by any of them, those are not even the things that the narrative brings up whenever its trying to get me to sympathise with him instead its always just "whaaaaaaa everyone thinks Im nasty and evil just because i keep doing nasty and evil things T-T"

Feyre is being very cruel but in a kinda funny way because its directed at Rhysand rn, i would insert the quote but I am in no state to translate anything at the moment but shes basically like "of course you have to hide your true self from your friends, they wouldnt wanna hang out with otherwise, you burden"

Idk why but the prose being like "my arrow struck him too deep" is so funny to me, it has the same energy as the vampire fics i read where the weird gay one gets his heart broken and he goes "it wouldve hurt less if he staked me in the heart"

Feyre is like "i cant believe he was so vulnerable and shared his sorrows with me and just threw all of it in his face" and I could not give less of a shit, but ive been on a big emotional abuse kick lately so now Im thinking about what if Feyre was just faking having feelings for Rhys in order to make him fall in love with her and be vulnerable with her only to then tell him the truth and reject the mating bond and make him completely break down as revenge for UTM. now that would actually be empowering

Now Feyre is thinking about how shes been using Rhysand for a long time now and come onnnnnn there is such a big power difference between them, I genuinely think its basically impossible for her to do that. Like, hes the most powerful guy in the history of guys or whatever, if anything you were doing bothered him that much he could simply make you stop doing it. hm. now Im thinking about what if rhysand was actually a huge masochist. Feyre is talking about how all the members of the inner circle suffered and are traumatized and theyve all learned to live with it and, not to extend too much sympathy to Rhysand, but all of the ICs major traumatic events happened centuries ago, his traumatic event happened one (1) year ago and it lasted 49 years i think its gonna take a little more time till hes all better

hey man the anti-AI stuff you reblog is rly. Reactionary idk how else to put it. It’s a mixed bag. AI has been used in art for a LONG time, it’s not as new as ppl think it is. It’s used a lot in animation especially. Obviously there is a difference between AI as a tool and AI as a replacement for artists/writers, but nearly every single instance of them attempting this has been catastrophically bad. (Doesnt stop the dumbass studios like Disney and Pixar to keep trying it tho, bc they value short term profit over any actual value) For AI being used in a professional setting, it’s imperative the distinction be made between tool or replacement. Machines, despite how efficient they have become, are managed by humans. Letting them run without a person actually operating it that knows what they’re trying to do is always a bad idea.

However, using AI generated pics for like. Personal use? Let’s say you aren’t a good artist, or as many have pointed out, can’t be an artist due to disability (none of that inspiration porn abt painting w your mouth some ppl can’t do that either.) and you’d like a picture of your Tabletop game character or OC or something, and you do not have the money to spare for a commission from the artist you like. Doesn’t mean you can’t pay for one later on, as a human will take the finer details you want and bring them to life, but if you’re looking for like. A placeholder? And you aren’t planning on selling it or some shit, then ppl shouldnt get on your case. Except every anti-AI bro now hears “AI” and flies into a frothing rage, saying it’s “never ok”. Nobody should care of somebody made a meme using AI or tried to make something just for themselves or friends. It becomes an issue when it’s being marketed as a “replacement” for artists.

Tldr: AI is a useful tool, the tech bros that got a hold of ot do not represent the entire scope of it. If it is used as a tool or personal use, it’s not an issue. It only becomes one when it is used as an explicit replacement for writers/artists.

i agree with the first paragraph, though im a little insulted you'd assume my knowledge and opinions on AI image generation were so shallow and uninformed as to have to explain it to me- but you lost me after that

first off, i wanna make it clear that basically no one thinks you're some sort of amoral monster for having used or even enjoyed what AI image generation and art can give you. most people genuinely don't understand the intricacies of its ethics and effects, and while ignorance like that is annoying, it's something most people who do get it understand and forgive with a sorta... exasperation. most of the time. now, maybe you're not coming from a place of good faith, i can't say, but i choose to think you are

i don't have the chops, time, or particular desire to explain what exactly is wrong with AI art generation (there's a lot in way too many directions), so i'll just give you a link to get you started (it's not a long read, just some basic critiques to jump from) and some admittedly harsh sounding (but well meant) advice that pertains to your particular use of AI:

you dont always get what you want. you're not entitled, for any reason, to the fruits of stolen (and popular AI datasets have been proven to unequivocally be stolen) artistic labor, especially if that theft is impacting the livelihoods of independent artists. (and don't give me "what about other generic media piracy" because that's its own can of worms and you know it. i won't hear it). it's not the end of the world that you have, but it's just not ethical to generate that art knowing it's based off stolen work- if it was all consensually given data it'd be different- and sometimes behaving ethically means you dont get what you want. tough shit. plenty of people can't or won't draw for all sorts of reasons, and none of those reasons suddenly make it ok for them to take other people's art

to be clear, if all the datasets used to train AI were ethically sourced- bought, donated, or taken from free use material- this wouldn't be an issue. i mean there would still totally be issues with casual generative AI, but this particular issue would be moot. the issue with AI art isn't the AI, it's what the AI's being fed. every time you engage with it gets smarter, and better, and more efficient at chewing up its stolen foods and spitting out a knockoff. the issue is what it's being fed and you are putting tokens in the little treat machine at its petting zoo enclosure

you want a placeholder? you got picrew. doll dress up games. hell, pester your friends for doodles. save up. or even just learn to handle not getting it at all- just pick something else

Ngl i should really re-do his ref sheet because he is a muscular guy and the chibi style base was good when i just needed a design to be out and done but now its really hard to tell his body type without me describing it,,,,,, but also im way to lazy and kinda hate his design! funny enough

Anyway, hes an Aasimar to a goddess of the moon, Novolumi. He has a russian accent which i fucking LOVE doing ughgh. Hes the cleric but has like 18 strength its great.

his home town was attacked by some story relavent people i hope lookin at you dm, and his wing was blown up [we love Sunburst] He was pretty despressed after that and locked himself up in his room where he tried to contact his goddess with no succes [spoilers shes a manipulative bitch]. He didnt even have his open relationship lover at the time since he was put into a coma via spell and the lover had suppoidly ran away during that time [spoiler they didnt actually] so now he feels alone even though his best friend and family are still rIGHT THERE ELIAZER WTF

He took up adventuring hoping that if he found Novolumis champion aasimar that he would be able to at least re-connect to her [ya know since her pristess in his town were like who needs school at age 6 when you have religoun?]. But! when he found his current adventuring parting his EX-LOVER WAS IN IT.

the statement that “they decided they wouldn’t let that future come true” means i was RIGHT about them wordlessly telling each other that the movie was their future. a mutual understanding. mc never needed to say it out loud to know that alkaid knew, or that they both knew they wanted to prevent it.

the voice acting in this scene. this is the closest we’ll get to an awakening alkaid meltdown and it is DELICIOUS

i want an au where mc is working for the empire in a forced deal, causing mental issues on the ship, just to protect alkaid. while alkaid is working with the supervisors and using morally questionable methods to study those with these mental issues, just to protect mc. delicious.

i love that the bad future in awakening haunts mc just as much as it haunts alkaid.

and i love that this draws from mc’s worries that her status as prefect crimson’s successor and an empire traveler would cause alkaid to turn on her.

this. almost reminds me of how prefect luminary would talk to eden alkaid. the same vibes and same mental influence.

i find it fascinating how this route has the theme of “wanting to protect someone but also respect their choices and decisions” vs “inspiring those who are suicidal to keep living” and how it wordlessly asks the question… do you intervene if someone is about to sacrifice their life? is that the line drawn where you stop respecting someone’s choices?

tammy knew about mc’s mother and her investigations also found that mc’s mother was sharing a healing melody… not a hurtful one.

also alkaid being so moved by mc’s story that he spends the whole entire night gathering information from books, the police station, and his mother… then writing notes about ALL of it. just so he can try to get to the bottom of the matter.

alkaid telling mc what he learned from his mother about how she had been to pettman island before and how she knew about the weird phenomena.

“forget about the lighthouse. there is something more important” jump cut to mc’s room with that 'something more important' being that alkaid needs to rest. this feels exactly like alkaid’s travel event 2 where alkaid says he needs help with something urgent and that 'something urgent' being helping mc get over her art block.

brushing a lock of hair behind someone’s ear is another favorite trope of mine. im going to kill alkaid for this (affectionately)

alkaid waking up the moment mc approaches him, obviously about to leave. he had a feeling mc would try to investigate shit on her own.

“between lovers, there should be no secrets” returns from white day! so cute! i also love how these two can just be totally open without any fear of judgement. even if it means telling alkaid upfront that she wants to go alone. instead of immediately getting upset, alkaid just listens to her. and wordlessly understands that he’s at high risk if he were to join.

So like. As amazing at the tma has been about fat acceptance and love and has been absolutely vital to a lot of my self acceptance as a fat trans man, because this fandom actually talks about fat people (as opposed to other fandoms where fat characters and hcs are nonexistent), it means it’s also exposed me to the most and worst fatphobia of any fandom. I genuinely don’t even gaf about the actual discourse discussed in this fandom, it’s generally the people who negatively react to discourse of ppl complaining about fatphobia. The initial problems are usually ignorable to me, but it ends up bringing up peoples voices that make it incredibly clear what their true thoughts about fat ppl are. Idrk why I thought I should share this with you, ig just seeing if you have similar experiences.

I struggle here because i don't like to feel like i am attacking other artists. i'm a hater and i love to complain but i know i have my own short comings. but when it comes to the fatphobia in this fandom im always left not knowing how to talk about things because people will come to me and tell me why my complaint about someone thinning out a fat character is wrong or bad.

do keep in mind i dont really engage with the tma fandom as much i feel very much on the outskirts so this is jsut what i feel like i see on my end and i'm sure theres way more going on i simply dont know

in recent months we have had a newer influx of artists in the fandom who have come in with their own interpretations of the characters which is all fine and good. its jarring sometimes when we become so used to these formless characters looking a certain way that when new people enter the fandom with different ideas it feels wrong and like an attack.

the biggest issue has been people drawing a thinner martin. and while of course everyones welcome to their own interpretation and martin expressing that he's not exactly the smallest guy has multiple ways to be interpreted it is extremely frustrating to see people take that as giving him the most bare minimum extra weight. especially when having a fat character as desirable and as a love interest and such a Fun character is so far and few between

i could go on and on about how each time a popular artist posts a thin martin it gives everyone who looks up to them the excuse to do the same and it's why it's become such a prevalent thing lately. i don't think popular artists should have to worry about being good role models or anything in a fandom i think if youre making art you should do it for fun but it sucks to see when someone becomes so influential and are creating a problem. i deleted like three paragraphs on this alone so i'm going to move on.

i think what i see in the fandom most in regards to fatphobia is a skill issue. people don't know how to draw fat characters. but it also feels like people are barely trying. the artist i have in mind who i would consider to draw skinny martins DOES add a bit of roundness to him. i can aknowledge theyre doing SOMETHING. but you can't come to me and tell me that i can't criticize their art because culturally that's fat to them... like sure it could be. but it's also definitely a limitation of their art style and ability and instead of defending them and patting them on the back for doing good enough shouldnt we encourage people to grow and improve? what an amazing asset to be able to draw people of all size and variety. thats an AMAZING abillity to have in youre tool belt. i wish i had more resources for drawing bodyfat but unfortunately i do not. i have learned from looking at people and luckily having a lot of large loved ones in my life i've learned from as well as you know.. my own body to learn from. and learning to draw bodyfat and drawing characters i love with it has done wonders for my body dysmorphia.

i went on a rambling tangent and idk how coherent all of that is but the end point is that fatphobia sucks it has no place in this or any fandom and we need to practice our skills instead of erasing something that has made this fandom so wonderful to me.

about what i said about the original manga being really dodgy about race, generally oda has a really horrible style when drawing black characters, with the weird lips and stuff, but as far as i know he never explicitly states that these characters are supposed to be black, and you may be kind of wondering why that would be a question in the first place, but he has this thing where there are a few characters that are, without color, drawn in a way where you would assume they would be black, but whenever oda releases colored material of the manga (like colored covers or just the anime, where i am 100% certain he has a big say in color palettes), the characters suddenly kind of aren't … black anymore?

even zoro or other characters that clearly are meant to be lightskin have darker tans than post-timeskip usopp, and im not sure im forgetting a piece of lore here but there shouldnt be a reason why brook had pale white skin when he was still a human etc. other than that i assume no one wanted him to be darkskin?

also in the tv show, usopps mom is black, but in the anime she looks like this:

and i think oda just forgot what usopps dad looked like every second chapter so it's hard to explain but occasionally he is a white man? especially in the beginning, you very often have to put a lot of imagination in to not see a random white guy

I guess at some point oda committed a bit more to usopp being black because prost timeskip yasopp looks like this instead:

here he at least has locs and only mildly offensive lips, but still his skin is arguably very white. i have only been up to speed until 2016-ish but to my recent memory i could not name one character where the show wasn't at least a bit dodgy about whether they should be black or not.

oda is also really really weird about homosexuality and trans women but that is a whole different can of worms, and actually one I also have some real hope for the show to do better because there are some hints to a popular fan theory being true in the live action adaptation, where fans speculated that a quite notable and pretty badass villain may be a trans guy, which for one piece standards is an insane level of representation tbh. i heard there was a trans woman in a later arc who wasnt played as a complete joke but like i said, i never watched that

OMG so!

I have a lot for them - I started self shipping with Mr Peanutbutter when the first season aired, before the show got big. So I was the only BJHM self shipper back then so I was kinda well known for it (like people would send me fics in my asks...miss that)

My guy is named Deerdog! His real first name is Rex but he just gets called Deerdog. He's a purple tufted deer (The deer with the fangs!)

They met when Deerdog was a showrunner on a cartoon that Mr Peanutbutter was cast as a guest star for. Funny enough- BoJack originally had the voice role but Deerdog found him SO insufferable that he kicked him off the show. So he was expecting more stress recasting at the last minute- but Mr PB actually ended up making him laugh and to him, really did embody the character who was very sweet.

Deerdog made soooo many excuses to be around him- this was before Mr PB dated Diane(Deerdog is a lot older than he looks. He's cursed with babyface like me.)and PB happened to be single...so Deerdog shoot his shot and got a date. They really did hit it off well. The main issue was- Mr PB was very passive in standing up for Deerdog with other celebs. Deerdog had not had top surgery back then so he looked feminine. PB always got the pronouns right, but wouldn't always correct others who didn't- which wasn't alright At All and is why they ended up breaking up despite being good together otherwise. There was also issues with Deerdog's unmedicated/uncontrolled BPD. He did lash out and struggle with jealousy- a lot. They really both had their issues and it was best for them to split sadly.

So, flash forward to current day Hollywoo. What changes from the canon version is PB only dates Pickles for a short amount of time- she realizes a lot sooner she should *really* be with someone that 1. Wont cheat on her and 2. Is better (Joey Pogo My Beloved). In the show after they broke off, it's clear Mr PB is taking a break from dating. Well- dating women. I think he thinks back to the one man he dated...Deerdog. He thinks a lot about it for months and months- over the fact that he and Deerdog probably got on the best out of all his relationships. The fact that there wasn't the age power imbalance(Which...king this shouldnt have taken you SO long to figure out was an issue with your relationships but hey at least you finally did. Unlike SOME people. Staring at the fucked up horse.). They both had the same love language. Even after all this time, PB still thought about him pretty frequently. His other exes he was able to fall out of love with but IDK...Deerdog was different.

So he ended up finding Deerdog's art instagram and DMing him. Deerdog was honestly very surprised- he had been out of the TV/Movie game for a long time and was just doing indie projects now- he honestly thought PB had forgotten about him completely. He still had his aprehension- the main reason he hadn't really dated much since the breakup was due to society's transphobia which, sadly, had only gotten worse. But he agreed to meet up with PB.

When they met up for coffee at Starbarks, I think they started with small talk and then an awkward silence...and PB apologized for not sticking up for Deerdog- explaining that it wasn't OK. Deerdog was Very taken aback by this and maybe started tearing up a bit. The bar is on the floor but it was passed at the very least. Deerdog also explained he was very sorry for his behavior back then- he's since gotten therapy and mental health help, and if PB was open to it, he'd love to be friends again.

And well...they didn't stay friends long. Because they started dating again a few weeks into being Friends again. This time it goes much, much better. Their time apart had allowed them to grow as people.

Long Story Short, they DO get married- and everyone thinks it's going to end like the last ones since they had only been dating a year...but it didn't. It lasts- it's still going. They absolutely have issues sometimes but they're able to use coping skills and communication skills instead of letting themselves bottle it up and get mad about it.

A popular theory since Deltarune came out is that Deltarune is the skeleton brothers’ home universe. Sans and Papyrus seem to not originally be from the Undertale world; it’s one of the only things we are told about their backstory

I made this back in January 2017 (can’t believe it’s been 4 years!) so the implication has always been there, but many people didn’t take notice of it until Deltarune’s release. Another thing that could also go here is Riverperson’s line warning us about “the man who came from the other world”

I understand why them being from Deltarune is such a common theory. For one, Deltarune shows us an alternate universe - and the skelebros are apparently from an alternate universe. Not a huge leap to make that DR might be that place they’re from. Then you have stuff like the ‘dont forget’ drawing which shows up after Clamgirl talks about you meeting Suzy (Suzy being the UT version of Susie from DR, while ‘dont forget’ is associated with Deltarune)

However, I want to present some counterarguments to it: why I think the world presented in Deltarune might not be where Sans and Papyrus originate. This also goes hand in hand with another theory: that the Sans (and presumably Papyrus) we meet in Deltarune may have actually traveled from Undertale. so basically it’s a reversal - rather than them going from DR to UT, they’ve come from UT to DR

Let’s take a look at Sans first. There are several things about him that suggest something is up. The way he talks to Kris seems to indicate he knows more than he lets on - he winks when he says he’s never met you before, he makes a joke about how you shouldnt trust a total stranger if you answer ‘yes’ too quickly to coming over to his house, then a couple moments later asks you to hang out with his brother anyway. There’s a cheekiness to how he addresses the idea that we (ie the anomaly and him) already know each other. At the very least, he acts suspicious and seems aware that something weird is going on. It could just be his keen perception that let’s him figure it out...or maybe he really has met us before.

I also find it very strange how he insists Kris hangs out with Papyrus. why does he want a weird kid he met 20 seconds ago to befriend his brother? i feel there’s gotta be an ulterior motive there, though I’m not sure what it could be. actually, this brings me to a little theory I have: Sans doesnt tell us what his little brother’s name is. this is strange, since you’d think he’d mention something as basic as a name to the person who’s going to hang out with his brother. what if Sans doesnt say it because he knows we already know Papyrus? 

(note: some people worry that Sans not mentioning Papyrus by name means his little bro in DR isnt Papyrus. I really don’t think that will happen. Papyrus’s voice grunt is in Deltarune’s audio files; we hear the “distant trousling of bones” in the skelebros’ house; and I highly doubt Toby would tease at his future appearance, only to reveal that Papyrus has been entirely replaced by another character - that would be too cruel, even for Toby)

Then there’s ‘his’ ‘shop.’ It is Grillby’s bar. It is literally just Grillby’s bar, with the ‘Grillby’ part scratched out. even has the same flowers in the pot out front. Now you might think - oh Sans took over the building after the bar shut down! I would think that too, if not for these lines (from Fuku Fire, who is sitting in QC’s Diner)

* I like the vibe of the waitresses here. * Maybe I should sign up, too... * ... Nah, serving drinks wouldn't really suit a fire elemental. * If I got nervous, I'd just melt all the ice.

I believe this dialogue serves a specific purpose - that is, to hint at us that Grillby never owned a bar in the Deltarune verse. And when you think about it, him not having the same job would make sense since most everyone in DR has different occupations than their UT counterparts; Deltarune is a world where a lot of things are topsy-turvy after all. So if DR Grillby probably never owned a bar, that means Sans either straight up took the building from the Underground somehow, or intentionally made his shop look exactly like it (even down to including the name). Sans seemingly shows the ability to reuse his snow-covered sentry station from Snowdin all over the place in Undertale, so perhaps he can do the same thing with the bar?

Another contention I have surrounds the circumstances of the skelebros’ arrival in Hometown. apparently, they very recently moved into town. this is interesting to me for 2 reasons: first, just as in Undertale, Sans and Papyrus are not from the same place as the other monsters. the other denizens of Hometown seem to have been born and raised there; Sans and Papyrus were not. like in Undertale, where Sans and Papyrus are not from the Underground like all the rest of the monsters are, they’re from...somewhere else, retaining the outsider aspect of their UT backstory.

second, i find it awfully convenient that they rolled into town right in time for the ‘survey program’ to begin. from how Sans talks about it, it seems like they just arrived only a day or two ago. what if it’s not simply a coincidence? 

there’s also Sans’s photo album, which is part of the evidence pointing to Sans being from another universe (seen in the above image). pictures of Sans with a lot of people Frisk doesn’t recognize. people he laments he’ll never get to see again. 

the thing about Hometown, though, is that all the citizens there have Undertale equivalents. even characters who we don’t get to meet in UT should have versions existing in Undertale - we know that Susie and the Holiday family do. It would be rather odd if all these unrecognizable people who Sans misses just...live in the City or something. (it could make sense if Sans is a Darkner like some theorize, and the people in the pics are Darkners, since they presumably dont exist in UT. it’s not a bad theory, however I’m not quite convinced of it)

The final reason I think they might not from the DR verse is a meta argument. Sans and Papyrus have a lot of hanging plot threads in Undertale. their characters arent really delved into much and a large amount of the sequel hooks in Undertale connect to them (and Gaster, who is likely related to them and seems to have a major role in Deltarune). Thus, I feel it would make more narrative sense for the Sans and Papyrus we meet in Deltarune to actually be from Undertale, for the sake of their character development and so their arcs can truly be wrapped up properly.

Despite the above, I admit it’s very possible they will turn out to have come from Deltarune. or, maybe it’ll be something like the DR verse we see is based on the world they came from (if Deltarune is a simulation made by Gaster like I think it is). who knows what complicated alternate universe shenanigans could be going on with them, for all we know it could be something no one has predicted.

but with my characters who wouldnt be white as humans (ex: cory, she'd be mexican) then maybe you shouldnt seeing as mexicans experience oppression too and deserve representation as well

it tends to come across as erasing one minority for another, and yk, thats biased and really jerky

the reason its ok to bend the ethnicity of white people is because they already got their fair share like move aside bruh

but yeah i dont believe you should change the ethnicities of non-white characters, but for the white ones, go tf ahead, its simply another take on a character and isnt going to hurt anyone

AHHHHHHHHHH THIS IS GOING TO GET SOOOO LONG!!!! i have a different view of the indo fam as a whole. i call them the indo fam but i mean the found family trope!!!! theyre like a group of college students sharing a dorm if that makes sense, since their servant selves are obviously different from their initial myths/human vessels!!!

RECENTLY, i have an oomf that found books about arjuna that summarize his exploits in the mahabharata(I DONT HAVE THE STRENGTH TO READ IT ALL IM SO SORRY) and also talk about him in a more philosphical manner such as his states of mind during each event etc and i’ve been meaning to read said book because im genuinely interested in arjuna now!!! and i’d like to know more about this indo prince because from what i’ve seen, he is portrayed in a rather bad light(?) in FGO which i find extremely !!!!!!!!!!! and incrdibley !!!!!!! strange !!!!!!! the mahabharata’s conflicts can be put in a mostly grey area where there’s no good nor bad, its not black and white. so seeing arjuna get bashed because of the way his conflict with karna was written is... hm. let’s say that im REALLY starting to understand arjuna fans that dislike seeing him get mischaracterized so much. OTHER THAN THAT, his design is adorable, his travel outfit is my favourite because he deserves to relax and have some fun!!! fgo making him a chuuni is cute and his VAs little moans are cute cute cute!!!!!!!!!!! (mash grabs my shoulder and forces me to sit down) i think that arjuna deserves better and im really happy to see him have fun in his travel costume voicelines. i think we should take arjun on a date!!! he’s a great lover, we’d have the best time!! OH ALSO, kama seeing him as the student council president in their interlude makes me SOOOOOOO HAPPY its unreal, i think it fits him very very well, the seitokaichou who was elected because of everyone’s hopes and recommended by teachers because he’s suuuch a good student but because of that, the pressure to be good is constantly towering over his head and everytime he looks out the window he wishes he could ditch class and skip a day just because he felt like going to the arcade and be a bad student.......just this once........i think hes very very cute...... i want him to cook for me. ANEWAYS i also have quite the thoughts about karna, his characterization in the game is linked to arjuna’s and thats fine but i think that forgetting how much of a little sassy bastard he can get was a mistake! did you know that in apocrypha’s german dub on netflix, when jeanne calls his name like “You’re Karna, aren’t you ? The son of the Indian Sun God !” HES LIKE “So ?” AND THAT WAS SOOOO BITCHY OF HIM, i think that karna is a good boy in fgo but the fact that he was such a fighty old man in the mahabharata shouldnt be forgotten and is a charm trait. I MEAN ???? HE THREW HANDS WITH AN 18 YEAR OLD(ARJUN) WHILE BEIN LIKE... THIRTY TWO. WHATS WITH THIS ANNOYING OLD MAN !!!!! knowing these little facts about him made me like him so much more actually !! i think karna being so nice is adorable!! but the little bitchy energy u can find in his voicelines is also very charming!! i think karna looking at me emotionless as i ask him to lend me his notes for the nth time that week and then saying “...Mn.” when i thank him is cute!!! his voiceline towards things he dislikes is interesting to me. karna seeming aloof and mean bc he doesnt know how to communicate but is actually nice underneath...... hey... thats a little delinquentcore........ i wouldnt say yankii but hes like... hes like... u know hes the handsome quiet one of the group of yankiis... u know the one...? hey where are you going

ganesha is also a character im deeply interested in but i havent played CCC so i dont know that many details about jinako herself !! my brain goes HMMMMMM it seems lord ganesha is trans in fgo ! (since kama used to be a male god originally as well!!) ganesha uses all pronouns!!! and ganesha is also special to me because they share similar traits with kama when it comes to their characterization AND mischaracterizations. ganesha isnt JUST jinako. theres a part of a god in the servant mix!!! and jinako HERSELF is actually a pretty sad character imo. the whole otaku/neet thing is obviously a facade and her true wish being that she wants to redo her whole life is also proof of how much she hates what shes become, yet at the same time, she doesnt know what else she could do. but anyways, i prefer looking at servants from a lore POV so i think that ganesha should still be considered a god and be adressed as such!! i like seeing people portray ganesha as jinako but i prefer it when a certain lavish more godly side of them is put forward. a side of jinako that managed to move on a little bit if that makes sense ? that got more serious. and became someone else entierly despite sharing similarities. needless to say their bond with karna makes me happy since he shows them respect as you should towards a god!! its a bit different from their bond in CCC... like they matured somewhat!! anyway ganesha is the one who taught everyone else in the indo fam about video games and technology and i will NEVER shut up.

miss lakshimi makes me very sad! because every female servant in the indo fam is an already known face. (... would sita count.) and lakshi being a jeanneface is a waste. well, she’s still very pretty and her lore is also quite interesting!! i havent looked into it fully yet but i think she should be kissed on the mouth. her bad luck makes me slip on a banana peel whenevr i get close to her to kiss her and i hit my head on the pavement and pass away- 

parvati is on a tough spot for me atm. i genuinely love thinking of her as the way the indian goddess herself is portrayed because thats where the fun lies for me in her character. especially when shes involved with other indian servants, thats a given!! i would like to see parvati grow, suffer and heal. because branding her as an “all-knowing mom” is easy, but every single parent makes mistakes if you follow that logic. also, since shes the sakura servant “thats closest to her initial personality”, she’s got some of the most Repulsive fans ive Ever witnessed in fandom spaces and lets say that im trying to work my way out of this hellhole and find things to like about parvati without the fandom’s influence. needless to say, im going to keep looking into her mythos and her lore by myself at my own pace and keep doing my own thing in my little corner. 

rama shouldve been a jock. THE RAMAYANA IS OLDER THAN THE MAHABHARATA, WHY IS.....Hrm well him being summoned as his baby version gives me hope for a future rama alt perhaps??? but i think that he shouldve been a total jock and he shouldve been huge with a huge red lion-like mane for his hair and a teethy grin and big biceps and intense love for his wife. SPEAKING OF SITA, her charm point is her purity but i wish.... that their artist still hadnt drawn them like That, im not a fan of lily servants and i think purity = being young is a bit of an annoying excuse!!! rama and sita looking similar is because of their shared history which is fine but... rolls my eyes............. rama shouldve been 6ft tall and sita shouldve been a milf to match...... anyways i doubt ravana would be added as a servant but i’d love to have a ramayana centric event!! where all indo servants have their own lore centric role to play!!! oh thatd be a dream.... but i have learned to not expect much from a fanservice game so im jus gonna draw my own stuff! tough love art advice

* doing lots of little warms up and sketches and doodles that are low stakes and just for fun is cool. but they shouldnt be the peak of your art. do big pieces. challenge yourself. 

* do studies and references and such. but please dont have the intentions in mind, as your drawing them, of posting the drawing somewhere. draw with the intention of improving. if you do it with the goal of showing it to people, you will subconciously correct yourself and do things the way you think they will be liked, not the way that will help you learn. 

* dont post everything you make, period.

* suck it up and learn to draw backgrounds. please. every artist has their weakness but for tons of people in online art communities it’s backgrounds. and i think objectively good character artists with big followings never really trying backgrounds helps keep this up. do backgrounds. please. your art will be so much more exciting for it. 

* if you dont feel confident enough to sell your art, like the art you work rly hard on, at at least $5, don’t open commissions. (this doesn’t apply to people doing commissions out of necessity to make a living, this is more for people doing commissions just for fun or experience. thanks anon for correcting me on this <3)

* dont try and have a style. if you’re a beginner and just trying to get good, please dont worry about getting a style. draw things you like, and draw the way that feels the most natural to you. your style will naturally develop over time and can be refined when you’re more experienced. but dont worry about trying to draw all things the same way bc you will just inihibt your abilities. 

* take critique (you can put, for instance, at the bottom of your post, or in the tags, “critique is welcome!”) but don’t go overboard, don’t stress about it, and don’t take critique from somebody less experienced than you in your specific thing. 

* please stop commenting on people’s posts showing their art that you admire “wow this art is great too bad mine sucks :((((” or some variation of that. you’re not complimenting their art, you’re making it all about you. this is annoying and makes everybody involved feel really bad about themselves. compliment other people’s art for the art, not how much better it is that x’s art!!! 

* understand that although having low quality art supplies doesn’t mean you can’t create good art, good art supplies are something good to save up for if you’re serious about drawing. if you’re skilled enough, a drawing in ibis paint can look like a drawing in photoshop. just understand that that the photoshop drawing is going to be a lot easier. 

* try digital art, don’t invest in it if you aren’t sure you like it, learn traditional too. if you use free digital art programs and feel inhibited by them but can’t afford the really high quality ones, then traditional can be a great alternative. there’s plenty of tutorials on how to photograph/scan traditional art so it looks really nice and clean!!

* above all, remember that art is hard. sometimes your art is going to suck. sometimes you spend hours on a piece and look at it and think, man, i done messed up. sometimes your art is bad but you still should try and finish it. that’s okay. it’s ok to be unhappy with a drawing. it’s okay to take breaks, to improve slowly, to take longer, to pick up art an older age. yall are doing amazing. keep up the hard work <3333333
